Sports Rehabilitation in Queens & Long Island

Athlete receiving sports rehabilitation therapy for knee injury

Expert Recovery for Athletes of Every Level

Sports rehabilitation is a specialized branch of physical therapy focused on helping athletes recover from injury, surgery, or overuse - and return to their sport safely at full performance. It goes beyond general rehab by addressing the specific biomechanical demands, movement patterns, and performance goals unique to your sport and position.

At Dynamic Physical Therapy, every sports rehab session is delivered one-on-one by a licensed therapist with advanced training in orthopedic manual therapy, functional rehabilitation, and sport-specific conditioning. Our clinicians integrate Kinesio Taping, Functional Release Therapy, Kinesis-based movement training, and advanced return-to-sport progressions - ensuring you get hands-on, evidence-based care from day one through return to play.

How We Get You Back in the Game

We combine advanced manual therapy with sport-specific exercise programming to address both the injury and the movement patterns that caused it - so you recover stronger and more resilient.

Manual Therapy & Soft Tissue Work

Targeted hands-on techniques including joint mobilization, myofascial release, and soft tissue manipulation to reduce pain, restore range of motion, and accelerate tissue healing after sports injuries.

Sport-Specific Strength Training

Progressive strengthening programs designed around the specific demands of your sport - rebuilding power, endurance, and neuromuscular control in the muscles and joints that matter most for your performance.

Functional Movement Rehab

Exercises that replicate the real-world movements of your sport - cutting, jumping, throwing, sprinting - to bridge the gap between clinical recovery and safe return to competition.

Return-to-Sport Testing

Objective, sport-specific and injury-specific evaluations that assess your strength, agility, balance, and confidence to determine when you're truly ready to compete - not just pain-free, but performance-ready.

ALTER G Return-to-Run Progression

The ALTER G anti-gravity treadmill lets us unload the lower extremities while restoring cleaner gait mechanics, earlier running tolerance, and smarter impact progression after injury or surgery.

Kinesio Taping, Kinesis & Recovery

Kinesio taping gives external support and proprioceptive feedback, while Kinesis-based movement training helps rebuild coordinated multi-planar control, conditioning, and recovery capacity between sessions.

ALTER G + Kinesis for Smarter Return-to-Sport Progression

Our Hicksville clinic is the Dynamic PT location for technology-supported sports rehabilitation, pairing the ALTER G anti-gravity treadmill with Kinesis by Technogym movement training to help athletes rebuild load tolerance, control, and confidence.

ALTER G Anti-Gravity Treadmill

Unload Pain Without Losing Real Walking and Running Mechanics

ALTER G uses precise body-weight support to reduce impact while your therapist restores gait quality, return-to-run rhythm, and lower-extremity loading in controlled steps.

  • Useful for post-surgical lower-extremity rehab, tendon irritation, stress reactions, and painful return-to-run progressions.
  • Lets patients practice earlier walking or jogging intervals while symptoms and mechanics are closely monitored.
  • Creates objective progressions using support level, speed, duration, stride quality, and symptom response.
Kinesis by Technogym

Train Control, Strength, and Balance in Real Sport Directions

Kinesis gives the therapist a versatile cable-resistance environment for multi-planar movement, posture, balance, and coordinated strength work that carries into court, field, gym, and daily activity.

  • Supports rotational, diagonal, lateral, and whole-body movement patterns instead of isolated machine work only.
  • Useful for shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, balance, and core-control progressions after injury.
  • Helps bridge the gap between clinic exercises and sport-specific return-to-play demands.

Evidence-supported sports rehab, not a generic equipment add-on.

We use vendor clinical resources, protocols, and case studies as supporting references while your therapist individualizes the actual plan to your diagnosis, sport, and stage of recovery.

Sports Rehabilitation FAQs

How soon after a sports injury should I start rehab?

The sooner the better. For most sports injuries, early intervention leads to faster recovery and better outcomes. Depending on the severity, rehab can often begin within the first few days - even before swelling fully subsides. If surgery is required, we can also provide pre-surgical ("prehab") conditioning to prepare your body for a smoother recovery afterward.

How long does sports rehabilitation take?

Timelines vary depending on the injury, its severity, and your sport's demands. A mild muscle strain may require 2 - 4 weeks, while ACL reconstruction rehab typically takes 6 - 9 months. Your therapist will set realistic milestones at each phase and adjust your plan based on how you respond to treatment - the goal is always safe, complete recovery, not just the fastest one.

Do I need a doctor's referral for sports physical therapy?

Under Direct Access laws, you can begin physical therapy - including sports rehab - without a physician referral. However, some insurance plans may require one for coverage. We verify your benefits before your first visit so you'll know exactly what's covered before you start. We also coordinate directly with your referring physician or orthopedic surgeon if you have one.

What's the difference between sports rehab and regular physical therapy?

Sports rehab goes beyond general recovery. While standard PT focuses on restoring basic function and pain relief, sports rehabilitation addresses the specific movement demands of your sport - including agility, power, endurance, and sport-specific biomechanics. It also includes return-to-sport testing to ensure you're not just pain-free, but actually ready to compete safely.

Can sports rehab help prevent future injuries?

Absolutely. A major component of our sports rehab approach is identifying and correcting the biomechanical weaknesses, muscle imbalances, and movement faults that contributed to your injury in the first place. By addressing these root causes - not just the symptoms - we significantly reduce your risk of re-injury and help you perform at a higher level than before.

I'm not a competitive athlete - is sports rehab right for me?

Yes. Sports rehabilitation is for anyone with an active lifestyle - whether you play recreational soccer, run marathons, hike on weekends, or just want to stay active as you age. If your injury is related to physical activity, a sport-specific approach will get you back to your activity faster and with less risk of recurrence than general rehab alone.

Can you help with pickleball injuries and court-specific conditioning?

Yes. Pickleball places unique stress on the Achilles, knees, hips, shoulders, and low back because of repeated starts, stops, lunges, and rotational reaches. We build rehab and conditioning plans around court movement, lateral recovery, balance, and return-to-play confidence instead of using a generic exercise handout.

Do you treat tennis-related shoulder, elbow, and footwork injuries too?

Absolutely. Tennis players often need a mix of shoulder control, elbow load management, trunk rotation work, and lower-body push-off training. Our sports rehab team evaluates the full chain - not just the painful joint - so return to hitting is safer and more efficient.
