Specialized Care for Older Adults Who Want to Stay Active & Independent

Geriatric physical therapy is a specialized branch of rehabilitation focused on the unique needs of older adults. It addresses age-related changes in muscle strength, bone density, balance, coordination, and joint mobility - helping seniors reduce pain, prevent falls, and maintain the independence they value most.

At Dynamic Physical Therapy, geriatric care is at our core. Our founder, Dr. Nilesh Soni, is a Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist (GCS) by the APTA - an elite designation held by a small percentage of physical therapists nationwide. He has delivered over 1,000 educational seminars for community-dwelling older adults and developed groundbreaking programs including the Comprehensive Osteoporosis Management Program.

How We Help Older Adults Move Better & Live Stronger

Our geriatric programs combine hands-on manual therapy, targeted exercise, and patient education - all delivered one-on-one by therapists with advanced training in aging and age-related conditions.

Balance & Fall Prevention

Comprehensive balance assessments, gait training, and progressive stability exercises designed to reduce fall risk - the leading cause of injury-related death in adults over 65. We rebuild your confidence to move safely and independently.

Strength & Conditioning

Targeted resistance training and functional exercises to combat sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss), rebuild power, and improve endurance for everyday activities like climbing stairs, carrying groceries, and getting in and out of chairs.

Manual Therapy & Pain Relief

Gentle, skilled hands-on techniques including joint mobilization, soft tissue work, and myofascial release to reduce chronic pain, restore range of motion, and improve tissue mobility in aging joints and muscles.

Osteoporosis Management

Our proprietary Comprehensive Osteoporosis Management Program - developed by Dr. Soni - includes weight-bearing exercise, posture training, and fall prevention strategies tailored for patients with osteopenia and osteoporosis.

Gait & Mobility Training

Analysis and retraining of walking patterns to improve safety, speed, and endurance. Includes assistive device assessment and training for walkers, canes, and other mobility aids as needed.

Patient & Caregiver Education

Practical guidance on safe movement strategies, home exercise programs, fall-proofing your living environment, and energy conservation techniques - empowering both patients and their families.

Geriatric Physical Therapy FAQs

At what age should someone consider geriatric physical therapy?

Geriatric physical therapy is generally designed for adults aged 60 and older, but there's no strict cutoff. If you're experiencing age-related changes in balance, strength, mobility, or pain, you may benefit regardless of your exact age. The sooner you address these changes, the more effectively you can prevent falls and maintain independence.

Is geriatric physical therapy safe for someone with osteoporosis?

Absolutely. In fact, it's one of the most important things you can do. Our Comprehensive Osteoporosis Management Program - developed by our board-certified geriatric specialist Dr. Soni - uses safe, weight-bearing exercises, posture training, and fall prevention strategies specifically designed for patients with low bone density. All exercises are carefully adapted to your condition.

How long does a geriatric PT session last?

Each session is 45 - 60 minutes of one-on-one time with your licensed therapist. Unlike many clinics that have you work in a shared gym with a technician, every minute of your session at Dynamic PT is dedicated, individualized care with a therapist trained in geriatric rehabilitation.

Does Medicare cover geriatric physical therapy?

Medicare typically covers medically necessary physical therapy services, including geriatric PT. We verify your benefits before your first visit so you'll know exactly what's covered. We accept most major insurance plans and can answer any questions about your specific coverage during your initial call.

Can physical therapy really prevent falls?

Yes - and the evidence is strong. Research consistently shows that targeted balance training, strength exercises, and gait retraining significantly reduce fall risk in older adults. Falls are not a normal part of aging, and they are preventable. A fall prevention program can be one of the most impactful steps you take for your long-term health and safety.

Can my family member or caregiver attend sessions?

Yes, and we encourage it. Having a family member or caregiver present helps them understand your exercises, learn safe transfer techniques, and support your progress at home. Our therapists also provide caregiver education on fall prevention, safe movement strategies, and how to help maintain gains between sessions.
